Email Ari Behn, who was previously married to a Norwegian princess and accused Kevin Spacey of sexual misconduct, died by suicide on Christmas Day aged 47. Mr Behn was married to Princess Märtha Louise for 14 years and they have three children together. The Royal Palace issued a statement on behalf of King Harald and Queen Sonja saying Mr Behn was found by authorities at his home.
They said he was “an important part of our family for many years and we carry warm and good memories of him with us”.“We are grateful that we got to know him. We grieve that our grandchildren have now lost their beloved father — and have deep compassion for his parents and siblings, who have now lost their beloved son and brother,” the statement added.
Mr Behn and Princess Märtha Louise divorced in 2017 and their relationship was topic of critics throughout much of their relationship.
In 1999, he published a book of short stories and plays Trist Som Faen, or Sad As Hell, that was translated into several languages.
In 2017, Mr Behn accused Spacey of groping him under the table at a Nobel Peace Prize concert in Oslo a decade earlier.
It is not believed that Mr Behn ever pursued criminal charges or a lawsuit against Spacey. Spacey did not comment on those specific allegations at the time and did not respond to comment by multiple media outlets on Thursday when news of Mr Behn’s death was known.
“It’s with great sorrow in our hearts that we, those closest to Ari Behn, must report that he took his own life today. We ask for respect for our private lives in the time to come,” Geir Håkonsund, Mr Behn’s manager, said in a statement to PEOPLE on Thursday.
“The family has asked me to convey that they are immensely grateful for the overwhelming support and all the condolences they have received during this tough time. It’s really good to see that Ari has meant so much to so many people.”
He leaves behind three daughters Maud Angelica (16), Leah Isadora (14) and Emma Tallulah (11).
